The Latins called it “Campania felix” (happy Campania) for its flat surface, the favourable climate and land fertility.
Archeology, nature and tradition are the three features that attract people today.
Symbol of the cookery of Campania region is pizza margherita, with tomato, mozzarella and basil, made for the first time in honour of the Italian flag and Queen Margherita di Savoia on official visit to Naples. The art of “Pizzaiuolo Napoletano” (pizza maker from Naples) was declared Human Legacy in 2017.
Among desserts, the most famous are pastiera (an Easter pie with ricotta cheese and oranges) and babà.
Other typical products are the buffalo mozzarella and Amalfi lemons.
The typical wines are Procida and Vesuvio, among the red ones, Lacryma Christi, Ischia and Capri among the white ones, without forgetting to mention the liquors as the famous Limoncello from Sorrento.
